This course will address what issues CPAs need to be aware of when working with elderly clients and those with special needs.

Attendees will learn about all aspects of long-term care, including where to receive it and how to pay for it. Other topics discussed will be Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, as well as the use of trusts in elder law and special needs planning.

  • Identify common myths regarding elder law

  • Recall information on assisted living and nursing homes

  • Identify different types of trusts - when to use, tax ramifications, and government benefit programs available
